Ficus nota, 1000m Crocker Range. This fig tree with abundant bunches of cauliferous green fgs grows behind a house in a village hamlet at c. 1000m in the Crocker Range, Sabah. It may well have been planted originally. The unripe female figs are eaten by the locals raw, mixed in with other green vegetables and chili as part of an “ulam” salad often eaten with rice dishes. The designation of Ficus nota is provisional as there is a wide variation in these green cauliferous figs.Ficus nota: LeavesThe fact that some of these figs have been attacked by fruit bats indicates that these are female figs.
