Ficus montana, Royal Botanic Gardens, Edinburgh, Scotland. July 2016. Despite the name F. montana is not generally found in the mountains but along lowland streams and in secondary forest. This fig is most common in the most seasonally dry seas of Borneo eg the Kudat peninsula and in South and SE Borneo.Ficus montana is found wild from India south to Java. In Java the leaves are eaten as a vegetable.Ficus montana. The leaves are extremely variable in size and shape.Ficus montana: The fig fruits have an ostiole with bracts that open up when the fig is ripe so that the seeds can fall into a nearby stream for water dispersal.
