Ficus chartacea at Kipandi, 760m asl, in the Crocker Range, Sabah. One of the common names for this fig is Speckled Leaved fig due to the prominent white dots or hydathodes on the leaves. The hydathodes expel excess water and mineral salts not needed by the plant, possibly an adaption to growing in soil with excess minerals.
