Ficus hemsleyana, Crocker Range, Sabah

Ficus hemsleyana, a common small tree in the understorey of lowland forest found up to 1,500m on Kinabalu. Beaman (2004) found this fig to be the 14th most common fig collected on Kinabalu but in the Crocker Range it is uncommon. Note the auricle  (or ear) on the leaf base and the tiny figs which grow in small bunches and ripen bright orange red.Ficus hemsleyana IMG_8984.JPG

This Ficus hemsleyana was growing at Kipandi Butterfly Farm at 650m asl in the Crocker Range. All photos are by Linus Gokusing.
