Ficus crassiramea, Sg Koyah, Kinabatangan, Sabah

ABOVE:  A female Asian Black Hornbill Anthracoceros malayanus, part of a small flock that flew across the Kinabatangan river to inspect the fruiting  Ficus crassiramea.

In late December  2016 a very large Ficus crassiramea was fruiting on the north bank of the Kinabatangan opposite the entrance (kuala) to the Sungai Koyah about 5 km downstream from the Danau Girang Field Centre. Black, Pied  and Wrinkled Hornbills  visited. The most common visitors were Long-tailed Macaques, Green Imperial Pigeons and Hill Mynas.

 

A pair of Clipper butterflies were feeding on ripe, damaged figs.
