Ficus brunneoaurata growing at c.500m at the side of the Kota Kinabalu-Tambunan Road which crosses the Crocker Range. This is a male fig and the fig fruits were full of pregnant pollinating fig wasps about to emerge.

Ficus brunneoaurata  is a Borneo endemic which  does occur in the lowlands but prefers hill forest throughout Borneo.  This fig can easily be distinguished from the very similar  small trees Ficus fulva and Ficus aurata by the orange red stipules and the prominent glands at the base of the basal veins on the undersurface of the leaf.
Ficus bruneoaurata. Fallen male figs with open ostioles from which the fig wasps have already emerged.

You can see the Ficus brunneoaurata tree  in the upper left hand corner of this photo leaning over the Kota Kinabalu-Tambunan road in the Crocker Range  not far from Kg Moyog.
