A young Ficus benghalensis growing at the Tenom Agricultural Park in south central Sabah. This park is full of interesting plants and fruit trees and is well worth a visit. Photos by Linus Gokusing.

Ficus benghalensis is native to India and does not grow wild in Borneo. Figs with many stilt roots are known as “banyans”. The only banyan native to Borneo is Ficus microcarpa a common large fig of coastal districts, which can be seen in many parts of Kota Kinabalu.
