The bark is typical of many strangling figs, pale white or grey and covered in air breathing cells called lenticels.
The leaves of Ficus depressa are distinctive which is why we were able to identify this fig liana even though it was not fruiting when we visited.
An early morning view across the Kinabatangan River from the front deck of the Sukau Rainforest Lodge, in Sabah. This is probably the richest forest in Borneo for both figs and wildlife.
