Ficus tinctoria var gibbosa is the most widespread fig in the Kota Kinabalu area. Often seen as an epiphyte growing on trees , it also establishes in cracks in concrete buildings and in blocked gutters. Alternatively it may grow as a small stand alone tree .The small orange figs are eaten by bulbuls and glossy starlings. This individual shown above is growing on a derelict building site (the failed Borneo Hotel project at Tg Aru beach).
