ABOVE: Ficus megaleia growing  in a forest reserve at Sapulot in SW Sabah. This is believed to be a male fig fruit.  Note that the bracts are shaped like an Ace of Spades  in card games. All photos by Anthea Phillipps

Ficus megaleia growing in a forest reserve at Sapulot in Sabah. Note that whist the leaves are very similar to those of Ficus uncinata  (but with more lateral veins) the fig fruit are very very different.

The orange arrows point to the furcate side veins i.e. side veins which branch before they reach the margin of the leaf. According to Berg (2007)  with Ficus megaleia most side veins are furcate but with F. malayana only one or two are furcate on each leaf.
