Yellow-crowned Barbet Megalaima henricii feeding on ripe Ficus subgelderi figs at the Belalong Canopy Walkway in Ulu Temburong, Brunei.  Yellow-crowned Barbets are fig specialists,  often the first birds to arrive when a strangling fig is fruiting in the forest canopy in Borneo. The Ficus  subgelderi fig tree illustrated in the photos above is next to the first tower  of the Belalong Canopy Walkway. In the photo above it is on the right hand side of the tower. This fig  tree fruits twice a year attacting numerous birds each time

Fig eating birds such as this Red-throated Barbet Megalaima mystacophanos often arrive early to inspect ripening figs so that they can calculate when the figs will be ripe and ready to eat. Photo Hans Hazebroek.
