Ficus heteropleura: Singapore Botanic Gardens

ABOVE: On the right hand side of this photo is  Palm Valley at the Singapore Botanic Gardens. On the left hand side is a shrubby hedge bordering the patch of rainforest. This hedge is rich in figs including Ficus chartacea and Ficus heteropleura. All photos taken November 2013 by Quentin Phillipps.

The plant with the heavily corrugated leaves intermingled with the Ficus heteropleura is Clidema hirta (Melastomatacea) which is an invasive S. American shrub with small fruit dispersed by bulbuls and flowerpeckers.

A fabulous little book about the Figs of Singapore
