Ficus xylophylla, Agathis Camp, Maliau, Sabah

ABOVE: Ficus xylophylla at Agathis Camp in the Maliau Basin Conservation Area, Sabah.

There are 3 lianas growing up this dipterocarp tree. The Ficus xylophylla root  is arrowed in yellow. The red arrow marks the label shown in the photo below.

The large thick leathery leaves are so unique among Bornean stranglers that they can only be confused  with the leaves of Ficus stupenda.
Ficus xylophylla. Note that the paired basal veins start from the  base of the midrib in a V shape. With Ficus stupenda the basal veins start higher up the midrib creating a Y shape.
