Ficus caulocarpa at the BORA Rhino orchard

Ficus caulocarpa sapling growing at the BORA rhino compound at Tabin in Sabah. Note the long reddish petioles (leaf stalks), the oblong leaves and the short stubby stipules (terminal leaf buds).

The BORA staff call this fig Mata ikan (Fish eyes) because the small round figs ripen white and resemble the eyes of dead boiled fish. See Ficus caulocarpa: Introduction
