Ficus paracamptophylla, Tangkulap FR, Sabah

Ficus paracamptophylla is a rare climbing fig liana in Section Conosycea  (strangling figs). Collected and photographed by Miyabi Nakabaysahi at  Tangkulap Forest Reserve in Central Sabah. Tangkulap FR is adjacent to Deramakot Forest Reserve. F. paracamptophylla is endemic to Borneo.

Ficus paracamptophylla  is similar to Ficus acamptophylla with oblong leaves which are revolute (curved inwards at the margins)  but the leaves are larger  with more prominent basal veins. However the most distinctive feature of F. paracamptophylla are  the large dried  persistent stipules (covering of the terminal bud)  as shown in the photo above,

Despite the degraded forest in both Tangkulap and Deramakot Forest Reserves both reserves are very rich in wildlife. This is undoubtedly due to the fact that poaching  and hunting are strictly controlled.
