Ficus acamptophylla 01, Tangkulap FR, Sabah

ABOVE: Leaf of Ficus acamptophylla  at Tangkulap Forest Reserve in Central Sabah   south of Telupid town. Tangkulap FR is bounded by Deramakot Forest Reserve on the eastern border. All photos are by Miyabi Nakabayashi.

Although F. acamptophylla  is placed in Section Conosycea  (stranglers)  it grows as a messy liana  not as a strangler scrambling over both small and large trees.  Note the roots  on the twig in the photo above.

 

Takngkulap Forest Reserve was heavily logged in the past and there are large areas of degraded peat swamp and freshwater swamp forest. This is the preferred habitat of Ficus acamptophylla.

Despite the degraded forest Tangkulap and the  adjacent  Deramakot Forest Reserves are very rich in wildlife- most likely due to the absence of poachers. See the camera trap survey  below.

Note that there are are large areas of degraded freshwater and peatswamp forest in Tangkulap Forest Reserve- the preferred habitat of Ficus acamptophylla.
