Ficus chartacea: Poring butterfly house

Ficus chartacea  growing in the Poring butterfly house in October 2011  where it had obviously been planted. This fig plant was growing as a low growing shrub with long narrow  “linear lanceolate”  leaves. Ficus chartacea leaves can be very variable in size and shape.

F. chartacea is extremely variable in morphology. However, this photo shows 3 very distinctive features  typical of  Ficus chartacea  (1) A pale pink floppy single juvenile leaf (2)  Numerous white dots (hydathodes) on the leaf (3) Sharply pointed,  smooth, reddish green stipule.
