Ficus montana: Kg Luanti Baru, Ranau, Sabah

Ficus montana growing as a liana on the ground at Kampung Luanti Baru, next to the Ranau-Sandakan Road in the Ranau District of Sabah.

Ficus montana is very variable both in  the shape of the leaf and also the growth form. In Sabah his fig has been recorded growing as an epiphyte on oil palm, as a small bush and on the ground as shown in this article

As pointed out by Berg (2005) in his monograph on the Ficus  of Malesia, Ficus montana is generally rare but where it does occur it is usually locally common.
