Ficus delosyce: Tawai FR 01, Sg Meliau, Sabah

Ficus delosyce at Tawai Forest Reserve  in central Sabah. The  22,700 ha Tawai Forest Reserve is in a hilly area of central Sabah. The soils are largely ultramafic  which results in a unique stunted  vegetation including many ants plants, pitcher plants, orchids and mistletoes.

Ficus delosyce is a poor soil specialist often found in coastal peatswamps but also occurring on poor soils in the interior of Borneo.

The Tawai forest reserve hosts one of the highest  waterfalls in Sabah as illustrated on the front cover  of the Tree Flora of Sabah and Sarawak. The large flat area behind the waterfall  in the photograph is known as the Orchid Plateau.
