
A male Large Green Pigeon Treron capellei eating an overripe soft Ficus cucurbitina fig at Deramakot forest reserve in Sabah. This fig tree was fruiting in early July 2020 attracting a large variety of animals. Between 03 – 10 July this fig was visited by 4 Helmeted hornbills, 24 Rhinoceros hornbills, 8 Bushy- crested Hornbills, 2 Black Hornbills and 2 Wreathed hornbills, along with an orangutan and dozens of squirrels and other birds. At night this tree was visited by nocturnal civets. Ficus cucurbitina and Bornean Striped Palm Civets at Deramakot

Note that Ficus cucurbitina figs are both very large and also covered in sharp spines probably to prevent them being swallowed whole by seed predators such as green pigeons.
