Pied imperial Pigeon & Ficus drupacea at Tg Aru beach

When the large Ficus drupacea fig trees fruit at Tg Aru beach, they attract 3 different species of pigeons.

Pink-necked Green Pigeon Treron vernans: Very common

Green Imperial Pigeon: Ducula aenea: Common

Pied Imperial Pigeon Ducula bicolor: Very rare

The beach forest at Tg Aru beach, Kota Kinabalu is very rich in birds due to the presence of many large figs trees.

The pigeons roost on the offshore islands opposite the beach and fly across the sea when the figs are fruiting
