Ficus  bruneoaurata is a  small Borneo endemic fig tree  which is  found in the lowlands on the west coast of Borneo but is more common in the hills up to around 1,500m.

Mount Trus Madi is the second highest mountain in Borneo  (2,642m asl) after Mount Kinabalu (4,095 asl).

The summit of Trus Madi is almost exactly 50km due south of the summit of Kinabalu but the climbing trail is longer.

The lower slopes of Trus Madi were logged c. 30 years ago, but the forest is now permanently protected. In the Trus Madi FR Ficus brunneoaurata is by far the most common fig growing along all the hill tracks above c. 1,000m where it replaces Ficus fulva and Ficus aurata which are only found on the lower slopes.  At ,1,200m the location of the Jungle Girl Entomology Camp  Ficus brunneoaurata is very common.  Nearly all the F. brunneoaurata trees along the roadsides are heavily parasitized by a species of Lepeostegeres mistletoe but these mistletoes did not seem to impact the health of the host.
