Ficus pendens growing in the secondary scrub surrounding the Gunung Lucia hostel at approx. 1,000m near the summit of Gung Lucia in Sabah, Malaysian Borneo.
Gunung Lucia (height 1,182m asl) is one of 3 extinct volcanic craters located in Tawau Hills Park in SE Sabah. See the map below.
Allow 4 to 6 hours for the stiff walk dependent on fitness and plan on spending the night in the hostel, which needs to be booked in advance.
The higher you climb on Gunung Lucia the heavier the rainfall, so bring rain proof clothes.
The views from the hostel are poor because by mid-afternoon the hostel is surrounded by clouds and mist but the night walks and wildlife are some of the best in Borneo.

There is also a fine example of a Ficus pendens growing on the summit of Bukit TV also part of Tawau Hills Park and with a road that takes you right to the top.
