The photos show a fruiting Ficus albipila, growing next to the Sungai Ran, toppled by a flood in June 2025.
Sungai Ran is located in the Desa Langap district in the Malinau Regency of North Kalimantan.
There is a large coal mine surrounded by virgin forest in the area. The altitude is approx. 500m asl.
The coal is removed to the coast by truck so there is an access road to the site.
Sungai Ran is a tributary of the Malinau River which flows into the Sesayap River which reaches the sea near the island of Tarakan off the East Coast of Borneo.
As yet there are no records for Ficus albipila from Sarawak or Brunei but this magnificent fig tree is locally common along the banks of the Kinabatangan River in Sabah and in South Kalimantan on river floodplains.
Thanks to Ripin for photos and information.
