The Meratus Mountains are a vast range of jagged limestone mountains, caves, hills and cliffs (karst) in South and East Kalimantan approx. 200 km long and from 15 to 40 km wide.

Due to the difficult terrain  which means farming is impossible in some areas there are patches of virgin  forest throughout which still contain some of the original wildlife.

This photograph of a Mullers Gibbon with baby was taken recently in the Gua Liang Udut forests surrounding a large limestone cave known as Gua Liang Udut, during an expedition by students of Mularwarman university known as  East Meratus 25 Kampus berdampak.
