When we visited on 24 November 2011 this  epiphytic fig growing on a Pometia pinnata tree next to the boat landing at the Belalong Field Centre was fruiting. The ripe fruit attracted  many different bulbuls and flowerpeckers. There were also numerous black ants present on the fig as shown in the photo above.. During our visit these ants started dropping from the fig to the ground like rain. The falling ants were each carrying an egg. Possibly something that we could not see was attacking the ants nest in the canopy above.
