This dipterocarp on the Belalong river bank next to the Kuala Belalong Field Centre, Temburong, Brunei supports an unusually thick  hanging root of Ficus punctata  that reaches the ground. It has long been thought that Ficus punctata   seedlings grow from the ground upwards like typical root climbers but the appearance of this root indicates they may also  start as epiphytic seedlings in the canopy  which drop hanging roots down to the ground drop similar to the strangling figs in Section Conosycea.
