Ficus variegata growing as a very large tree in primary forest in the Bario Highlands in N.E. Sarawak. All photos by Jean-Yves Rasplus on 25 April 2007.

Although several large Bornean figs grow to a similar size with a straight white trunk and large buttresses eg. F. albipila, F. callosa, F. nervosa and F. magnoliifolia,  only F. variegata will have cauliferous figs or their remnants hanging  from the  very tall smooth white trunk. This makes  F. variegata easy to distinguish from all other figs.variegata - 4.jpgvariegata - 3.jpgvariegata - 2.jpg01 Ficus variegata - 1.jpg
