ABOVE: Ripe male Ficus francisci figs at Pa Lungan in the Bario Highlands. With the two figs upper right the fig wasps have already left and it appears that ants have been clearing out the dead gall flowers (the dark brown detritus) from inside the now functionless male fig fruits presumably so that they can use the empty chambers as temporary housing. The 3 fig fruits centre bottom still have intact ostioles which means that the fig wasps have yet to emerge.
