Takngkulap Forest Reserve was heavily logged in the past and there are large areas of degraded peat swamp and freshwater swamp forest. This is the preferred habitat of Ficus acamptophylla.
Despite the degraded forest Tangkulap and the adjacent Deramakot Forest Reserves are very rich in wildlife- most likely due to the absence of poachers. See the camera trap survey below.
