Ficus stolonifera, a small tree growing in hill forest at the Utan Paradise Jungle Resort in the Crocker Range. F. stolonifera is one of 3 Bornean figs which could be described as “bead curtain earth figs” including Ficus ribes and Ficus treubii. The fig bearing stolons emerge from the trunk not only at ground level but up to 6 m up the trunk and along the branches. When covered in strings of fig fruits these fig trees are a spectacular but rare sight in the forests of Borneo.
