Ficus cucurbitina is considered a rare fig throughout its range but at Tawau Hills Park in Sabah F. cucurbitina is locally common around Park HQ and seedlings are even found on the oil palms growing outside the park.

This is very fortunate for  the local wildlife  as F. cucurbitina is popular with orangutans, gibbons. macaques, pigeons, hornbills and civets.
