Cynopterus fruit bats do not have echo locating capabilities unlike many bats in Borneo so they often roost near the mouth of  caves where there is just enough light for the bats to see.

This means that there is also enough light for the seeds of the figs they eat to germinate. At this cave on Balambangan island, Sabah, Malaysian Borneo the majority of fig seedlings  growing in the cave mouth were Ficus septica with one Ficus variegata and one Ficus chartacea.
