A giant Ficus stupenda fruiting next to the Tongkat Ali trail at the Danum Valley Field Centre in early November 2021 resulted in a feeding frenzy.

5 species of hornbills competed and jousted  for the ripe figs.

Shavez Cheema of 1Stop Borneo Wildlife  recorded  27 Rhinoceros Hornbills, 2 Helmeted Hornbills,  1 Wrinkled Hornbill, 10 Black Hornbills and 5 Bushy-crested Hornbills all feeding together in the same large fig tree. In addition numerous green pigeons of at least two species  arrived to feed on the ripe figs.

The numerous Rhinoceros Hornbills were mainly immature  birds, typical of  the nomadic flocks of young individuals which group together before they find a  vacant breeding territory and pair off to begin nesting.
