Ficus rubromidotis is a locally common fig found in rocky areas of wet forest in Brunei, Sarawak and West Kalimantan.
Currently there are no records for Sabah or East Kalimantan.
The distribution overlaps with Ficus midotis a common fig of wet forest throughout Borneo.
According to Berg & Corner (2005) these two very similar fig species can be told apart by two unique features;
(1) Ficus midotis leaves are slightly wavy with a slightly serrated edge whilst Ficus rubromidotis leaves are wavy but with a smooth edge.
(2) Ficus midotis stipules are semi-amplexicaul whilst Ficus rubromidotis are fully amplexicaul.
Both species are endemic to Borneo.
