Ficus detonsa is a Borneo endemic and one of the worlds rarest figs.
Until this recent discovery near the summit of Gunung Alab (1964 m asl) in the Crocker Range in Sabah, there were no records apart from Kinabalu..
Previously, Ficus detonsa had only been recorded from poor soil areas within the cloud layer (mossy forest) on Mount Kinabalu in Sabah, Malaysian Borneo.
This is the first time the living plant has been photographed .
Thanks to Chun Xing Wong and the team at 1StopBorneo for information and photographs.
