A giant Ficus stupenda fig tree fruiting at Sayap in late July 2025 attracted two species of civets, Masked Palm Civet Paguma larvata and a Binturong, Arctictis binturong.
The Sayap sub-station of Kinabalu Park is located on the very wet western slopes of Mount Kinabalu, the Malaysian state of Sabah in Northern Borneo.
Due to high rainfall of 4+ meters per annum and the constant sunshine, the diversity of the plant life at Sayap including figs is amongst the highest in the world.
Many thanks to Jon Hall of Mammalwatching.com for the civet photos and Shavez Cheema of 1StopBorneo wildlife for information and assistance.
