Ficus ridleyana is a little known “near endemic” earth fig found only in the Malay Peninsula and in wet rainforest at the very tip of S. Thailand, on the Thai-Malaysia border (Narathiwat) .
The preferred habitat is wet hill forest often in association with two common earth figs Ficus beccarii and Ficus malayana.
The fig walls are ribbed surrounding the ostiole and covered in dark hairs but there are no bracts on the side of the figs.
The photos were taken on Bukit Perangin a hill forest reserve close to the Thai–Malaysia border in the state of Kedah, West Malaysia.
Ficus ridleyana has been frequently confused in the past with Ficus vrieseana which is a closely related species of earth fig confined to Sumatra and Java.
