This painting by the artist John Turnbull Thompson entitled “Grooved Stones at Pulau Ubin, Singapore (1850) shows a Ficus stricta  growing on top of the grooved rocks next to the landing jetty at Pulau Ubin. The same fig tree is still present today. This painting is  in the University of Otago Library in New Zealand.
