ABOVE: This Ficus spathulifolia tree growing at Batang Duri Park, Temburong Brunei has just finished fruiting and is about to sprout with new leaves. Note the unusually large, abnormal looking stipules.

Batang Duri Park, Temburong, Brunei. This nondescript park and the mini zoo on the opposite side of the road are unbelievable rich in scarce and interesting figs difficult to see easily elsewhere.  The fig tree in the middle of the photo above is Ficus kochummeniana. Like Ficus spathulifolia, F. kochummeniana is normally confined to peat swamp forest. Obviously the person who originally set up the park had a serious interest in figs.
