Ficus retusa is a small  rare strangling fig  found  in areas of poor soils including peatswamp and kerangas (white sand)  habitat in Kalimantan and Java.

The appearance of the  upper surface of the leaves with 3 prominent sunken veins- the midrib and the paired basal veins is distinctive.
