Megapodes Megapodius cumingii evolved on the islands  east of Borneo in the Philippines east to New Guinea where there are few or no mammalian ground predators.

In Borneo, Megapodes are common on many small islands and only rarely occur on the mainland. Megapodes are generalist feeders  on invertebrates and fallen figs.

On Selingaan Megapodes are numerous and can often be seen feeding on fallen figs.

Like chickens Megapodes have a muscular gizzard which means that they can digest fig seeds as well as fig fruit flesh. Megapodes are therefore seed predators not seed dispersers of figs.
