We visited Selingaan Island by boat from Sandakan on 20 July 2023 for an overnight stay to see nesting Green Turtles.
We found that the island vegetation was dominated by numerous very large fig trees including Ficus microcarpa (most common), Ficus virens (at least two large trees and probably several more smaller trees), and Ficus drupacea (at least one large tree). Both the Ficus drupacea and the largest Ficus virens were fruiting during our visit. We only saw Glossy Starlings and Yellow-vented Bulbuls feeding in the canopy. However, Megapodes were common and seen feeding on the fallen figs..
