ABOVE: This bonsai variety of Ficus microcarpa known locally as Green Island  is believed to have been developed in Taiwan. It was photographed at Sembulan a suburb of Kota Kinabalu in February 2016.

The names given by bonsai enthusiasts to Ficus microcarpa can be very confusing.  This bonsai variety of Ficus microcarpa is usually called Ficus retusa  which is an entirely different species not used for bonsai.
