Ficus racemosa (Tangkol)  is well known as  an important source of food for the animals that live along the Kinabatangan river in Sabah.

The ripe figs provide food for elephants, orangutans, gibbons, macaques, civets, fruit bats, hornbills and fish.

Not so well known is the fact that the young leaves also provide food many animals including  colugos, macaques  orangutans, proboscis, silvered langurs and Large Flying Foxes.
